On November 13–14, 2025, Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF) promoted the Global Voluntary Carbon Market (GVCM) at COP30 in Brazil, with events held at both the Korea Pavilion and the UNFCCC Pavilion. These events marked MOEF’s first international announcement of the GVCM initiative, following recent agreements with the UNFCCC and GGGI. The GVCM aims to enhance the credibility and transparency of global carbon trading by aligning with the Paris Agreement and leveraging advanced technologies like AI and blockchain.
Key partners—including the UNFCCC, GGGI, and the World Bank—joined MOEF in presenting plans to build capacity, develop high-integrity methodologies, and support international trading, especially for developing countries. Full-scale GVCM programs are set to launch in 2026, positioning Korea as a leader in global climate action and carbon market innovation.
